Performance Based Testing & Commissioning
We perform large building air tightness testing and commissioning for code compliance on apartment buildings, condominium towers and commercial buildings.
Testing can also be performed mid construction to assess the performance and integrity of air barrier systems.
We perform testing for the following programs:
Ensuring that heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are installed and operating correctly according to design specifications.
This involves verifying the installation, testing system performance, making necessary adjustments, and documenting the results. Proper commissioning ensures energy efficiency, reduces operating costs, and enhances indoor comfort and air quality.
Commercial and residential duct testing involves evaluating the airtightness of HVAC duct systems to ensure they are properly sealed and efficient.
This process typically includes pressurizing the duct system to a specified level and measuring the amount of air leakage. For commercial systems, the testing often follows standards like SMACNA, while residential systems might adhere to guidelines such as those from the IECC or HERS. The goal is to minimize energy loss, improve indoor air quality, and ensure the HVAC system operates efficiently
Water penetration testing of windows and doors evaluates their ability to resist water infiltration under simulated conditions.
Following the ASTM E1105 test standard, water is sprayed onto the exterior surface of the window while a controlled air pressure difference is applied to mimic wind-driven rain. The interior side is then inspected for any signs of leakage. This process ensures that windows can effectively prevent water from entering the building, thereby protecting the interior from potential water damage.
Before specializing in building energy analysis and code compliance, Mikhael practiced as an HVAC design engineer for ten years. In these roles, he has acted as technical lead on hundreds of projects. Mikhael is able to support a broad range of solutions for the built environment.
